The Best Advice I’ve Ever Received

Q:  We all have had wisdom bestowed upon us from those who have gone down our path before. What’s the best advice you ever received, either personally or professionally, and why?

A:  The best advice I’ve ever received is this:

You cannot receive without first giving.

(or you cannot harvest without first planting)

I’m big on Laws. Not rules because rules are man made and can change depending on the whims of other men. Laws on the other hand are universal. The Law of Gravity is one such universal constant, Newton’s 3 Laws of Motion are yet another example. There are countless others. There are laws to excelling and thriving in your life and in your business that simply do not change. These laws are in place like gravity, whether you like them or not they exist. To try to fight this fact is as futile as trying to fight the law of gravity. That being said, let me give you the NUMBER ONE LAW for succeeding in your business and in your life.

This is the top, most important, numero uno, bestest, biggest, most valuable, highest rated, top ranked law of your entire life. Your business is a lot like your life in that you must work on it diligently if you want it to be a success. And the number one thing that you can do to make your business and your life successful is to give. Now I’m about to show you EXACTLY how to give.

Everything that has ever been created in this universe has come from a seed. All life began from a seed. All things that are in existence are created from seeds. Life is, in its simplest form, encapsulated in the phrase “seed time and harvest time”. If you plant a seed then you WILL get a harvest. BUT there is a catch and that catch is Step #5, but let me start from the beginning and not get ahead of myself.

If you plant an apple seed then you will have to do certain things to get that harvest of apples. They are as follows:

1. You MUST first plant the seed.

2. You MUST plant the seed in a place that will allow it to grow.

3. You MUST provide the seed with water and sunlight.

4. You MUST remove the weeds and other things that will kill the young tree as it as growing.

5. You WILL receive a harvest and that harvest will be ‘of’ that seed.

If you miss ANY of these steps you will NOT receive the harvest. That’s it. Simple right?

Here is the catch.   The harvest that you receive WILL BE OF THE SEED THAT YOU PLANTED.  This means that if you plant an apple seed and go through all of the steps you will get an apple tree and thus apples and eventually more apple seeds.  The beauty of this is that if you plant a seed of love you will get more love in return.  Conversely if you plant a seed of hatred you will get a harvest of hatred.

So many of us plant negative seeds and get negativity and wonder why.  If you want to know why you have a particular issue in your business and in your life, you have to first look a the seeds that you’ve planted to get that particular harvest.

  1. Great advice, I can recall my great grandmother telling me this as a child. Of course then it was just “old people talk” but as an adult I have learned to to be true. You can’t expect success to show up when you haven’t worked for it.

    • lol @ “old people talk”. I get it though. It’s amazing that the older I get the smarter my parents and grandparents get. It’s incredible because when I was younger they were such idiots. LOL!

Yes!!!! Another tidbit my grandmother bestowed upon me! It’s great to know and be amoungst others who was privileged to the same great advice.

  3. This was one of the first things you said to me when I was feeling so frustrated with life and feeling like I was only spinning my wheels and getting NO WHERE!

“You have to plant a seed and nourish it and it will grow”…is what you said. Then you told me to stop planting seeds under concrete…lol Still trying to stop that one! LOLOLOL But for the most part, you were ever so RIGHT! Once I began to plant the seed, get some daily nourishment to it, talk to it, love it, de-weed it’s surroundings…I stated to see the seed blossom…now I’m learning to plant more than one seed at a time but be more organized and scheduled with the maintenance of my crop so that I will receive a HUGE harvest! It is more than a miracle to see a Rose grow through concrete; therefore, I canceled my contract with the cement truck!

Keep doing what you do! My world is a much better place since meeting you!

    Much Love! One Love!

I’ve received many nuggets of wisdom, but I must say that one of my classmates gave me one made of gold. He said that you just can’t take things personally in business. If you do, you will never perfect your brand and remain static. People are competitive, and you must either compete or get left behind with a certificate of participation instead of the first place trophy that you deserve. He went on to say that you must learn the art of defenseless communication. Talking to people in the tone that they want to hear is golden, and leaving out those snide remarks while swallowing your pride goes a long way as well.

This is nice, and the comments above have been helpful. Have a blessed day.
