Today’s task is to identify 3 quotes that I love. Interesting that this is today’s assignment because my mother and I were looking to pen a book based on my M’Dears’ idioms and quotes. I may put one of hers in this post but these three are of special significance to me in particular. Starting with:
Do. Or do not. There is no try.
Yes, I’m a geek, it is what it is. But this quote is beautiful to me because it’s the essence of what each of us in this challenge are looking to do. We are ‘doing’, not trying. You either do what you set out to do or you don’t do what you set out to do. It’s that simple. There is no such thing as trying. So… what are you going to do?
Next there is this gem:
Fortes Fortuna Iuvat
It literally means, Fortune Favors the Bold. There are other translations but THIS is the 2,000 year old original saying. In fact, if I were inclined to get a tattoo it would be of this. lol! But that’s too much unnecessary pain.
But I digress. Fortune Favors the Bold. I believe that this is the case. If you’re fearful, just jump. What’s the worst that can happen? If you’re afraid, just do it. You’re probably not going to die so what’s the worst that can happen? As long as you’re alive you have options. BE BOLD. BE BOLD! Fortune favors the bold. Note: It’s not “Fortune favors the stupid.” I’ll say it again…
Fortes Fortuna Iuvat
Another is:
Done Is Better Than Perfect
Many people simply waste time going over a thing over and over again trying to make it ‘perfect’ when it’ll never be ‘perfect’. Make it as good as you can get it and be done with it so that you can move forward. There is no such thing as perfect. Whatever the thing is that you’re fretting about will be changed shortly anyway. This is not to say that you should rush and put out garbage but that you should not have paralysis by over analysis. Get it done. The beautiful part about it all is that you’re an entrepreneur so you have incredible power to actually get things done. So… do it. Just get it done. So many times I’ve designed a thing and have gotten it as well as I can get it and the client wants to make endless tweaks extending their own dead line then coming back to my original design and going with that. It’s interesting. I know that it’s not everyone’s thought process but…
“A good plan, violently executed now, is better than a perfect plan next week.”
George Patton
Just get whatever it is done. It’s NOT going to be perfect. You can go back and correct mistakes and tweak things. But if you never get it done then it’s never in a place where things can actually be corrected. Perfection is an illusion.
The final one is from my dear grandmother. This is a woman who had NO FILTER WHATSOEVER. None. Zip. Zilch. Nada. Cero. Nil. So suffice to say she did not suffer fools lightly. One of her favorite quotes was:
Ya got diamonds in ya back. Ya look better going than coming.
Yup… that’s my girl.
RIP M’Dear.

This is a great list! I love how you used a video for one of the quotes!
I see that you’re an Octavia Butler fan…did you know that they’re releasing some of her unreleased short stories in June? I’ve pre-ordered them! lol. Here’s the link…from one fan to another.

Ok you’re just playing with me now huh? lol! I’m a HUGE Sci-Fi fan so I’ll definitely be looking forward to getting this collection. Kindred is one of my favorites by Octavia, Thank you for the knowledge.
I need to hang “done is better than perfect” on my wall too often I get caught up in over-tweaking so that it is just right.
The second quote is a great one also.
Be my guest… I have it on my wall already. 😀
Very inspirational. Thanks for sharing!
My pleasure!
